I ripped it out. It's getting to be an old story. I started the "Sweater for Your Head" from Knitter's, but it was such a pain! You used a chain cast-on, which was difficult enough, then after knitting six inches of ribbing, you doubled it and removed the chain and knitted the two edges together. It didn't sound so difficult, but it didn't make me happy.
I wasn't careful enough about matching up the edges when I did it the first time, and the folded over ribbing didn't lay flat. So I removed the join and started it again, but I'd lost the cast-on edge's definition, and wasn't picking up enough stitches, and it wasn't going to match up, so I ripped it out.
I never wear hats anyway, but it sure looked cute in the picture.
