Thursday, January 30, 2003:

In the mail tonight was 1, count 'em, er, count it, ONE ball of Chinchilla. Six still outstanding. Or eight, I can't remember. I hope I'm not going to get them ALL one at a time . . .

I finished the green one and started casting on the purple one.

The pattern, such as it is, is this:

Cast on 160. I use size 10 needles to cast on, for a really loose edge, then knit off onto a size 6 circular (29") needle. Knit every row until the scarf is about 6" wide, then cast off using a size 10 needle so the edges don't pull in.

Casting on (and off) that many stitches is a pain, but I think it makes a nicer looking scarf than one knit end to end. I don't use quite two balls of Chinchilla; probably about one and two-thirds. It's not an exact science, whatever works for you and looks right.
