Friday, May 23, 2003:

After seeing all the kitties playing with their catnip mice, I've decided that I really should knit some for my own kitties. I don't have any leftover wool, since I never knit with wool until I started knitting socks, thinking that I was allergic to it, or at least that it was itchy. I always found it to be so when I was a child, but once I finally tried wool socks--based solely on the wonderful new self-patterning sock yarns--I didn't find them itchy or scratchy at all.

So I think I'll head over to JoAnn and buy a skein of Fisherman's Wool, which I've heard cats love, and make a little Aran mousie for the babies. Pictures to follow . . .

I had two doctors appointments yesterday--one a routine annual ob/gyn, the other a routine annual mammogram. I ended up waiting almost two hours in the first doctor's office, so got quite a bit of knitting done on the current sock, the Trekking XXL. I didn't have to wait long at all at the imaging center, but since I was carrying my knitting in the transparent plastic bag, the technician asked me about it, and was fascinated by it. I asked her if she knits, and she said no, but she did know how to crochet. She loved the colors and the tiny stitches, and we talked about how, in years past, the woman of the family had to knit socks for the entire family or they would have no socks. I'm fortunate that I can knit them for fun!
