I hadn't picked up the vest that I was knitting in the acrylic yarn for a week or more, but I stayed home sick today (bad cold), and picked it up, and I hadn't knit a row before I thought, "this isn't fun at all!" The yarn didn't slide easily on the bamboo needles, and it kept snagging, and although the yarn looked fine, it just wasn't a pleasure to work with.
So I got out the box of wool (Araucania "Nature Wool") that I got from Elann a couple of weeks ago and that I was "saving," and cast on for one of the fronts of the Albion Vest, and it fairly sang on the needles. I chose a dusty rose color, and the yarn is really beautiful--it's hand dyed, with many subtle color variations. I also bought enough to make another vest in purple.
After I had knitted with it for awhile, I knew I loved it so much that I went back and ordered enough to make
this cardigan in natural and two shades of green.
I'm sticking the acrylic back in the basement in the "only in case of emergency" pile. I'm not a snob about yarn, I'll use anything that works and that feels good to me, but I do finally see the difference, I think.
