Saturday, August 27, 2005:

I ended up ripping out the first sleeve of the Silk Garden sweater. I decided it was too wide, and at first I thought I'd just fudge it by making a bunch of decreases toward the cuff, then I realized that since it was the sleeve, and I had to make two, I wouldn't be happy with either a) having two vaguely different sleeves, or b) making the second one wrong just so it matched the first. So I ripped it all out and started over, making the decreases closer together.

I went to the yarn shop today to see if there were any bamboo circular needles smaller than 16" to finish the sleeve. There weren't (I don't know if any are made or not), but they had 12" Addi Turbos, which I had never tried. I just wasn't sure about it, and they were expensive, but I thought I'd give it a try, and bought one.

At first I thought it might be too slippery, but I got used to it pretty quickly, and loved it! I think now I'm going to go back to the shop tomorrow and buy a 16" one -- actually, I'll get it free, because my purchse today filled up my punch card, and that means I get $15 off something, which will just about pay for another needle.

I finished the sleeve tonight (I ended up using double-points for the cuff ribbing, though), and I think I'll wait until I get the new Addi tomorrow to start the second sleeve.

And then, what's next? I'm not sure. I ordered the yarn for the dog sweater, but it isn't here yet. I've been wanting to try the entrelac shrug from Knitters' Ponchos and Wraps, but I'm not sure. I might give that a try. I have another bag of Silk Garden . . .
